FAQs

Who do you work with?

1

Kangaroo Coaching & Consulting specializes in working with neurodivergent teens (12-21), adults (21+) and parents/caregivers of neurodivergent children. This includes ADHD, autism, corpus callosum disorders and other brain differences - as well as families who are navigating a diagnosis or just trying to figure out what’s next.

How do I get started?

2

Book a free 30-minute chemistry call. It's a low-pressure conversation where you can share what's going on, ask questions, and we figure out together whether coaching makes sense. If you're a parent interested in coaching for your teen, the chemistry call process works a little differently - see the teens page for more details.

What makes you different?

3

A few things. First, the background: I've spent over a decade studying the brain (as a researcher and clinician-in-training) before becoming a coach. That means our work together is grounded in real neuroscience, not just general wellness advice.

Second, I specialize in populations that are often underserved or misunderstood — including people with corpus callosum disorders and other rare brain differences. If you've felt like most resources weren't really built for your brain (or your child's brain), that's exactly the gap I'm trying to close.

And finally: if coaching isn't the right fit for what you're dealing with, I'll tell you that and help point you somewhere better. I'd rather you get the right support than the wrong service.

How can I contact you?

4

You can reach out anytime via the contact page or email.

Is coaching the same as therapy?

5

No. Coaching is focused on the present and future — building skills, developing strategies, and working toward goals. Therapy is designed to treat mental health conditions and process past experiences. Many clients do both, and I'm happy to coordinate with other providers when that's helpful.

If it sounds like therapy would serve you better than coaching, I'll say so and can help connect you with someone.

Are you a licensed therapist or psychologist?

6

No. I'm a coach with a background in neuroscience research and a graduate degree in clinical psychology (neuropsychology emphasis). I am trained in CBT, mindfulness, and other therapeutic approaches, but I am not licensed as a therapist. I don't diagnose, treat, or provide therapy. Coaching is an educational and supportive service — not a clinical service.

Do you provide receipts for reimbursement?

7

Yes — receipts are available upon request. Coaching is generally not covered by insurance, but some clients use HSA/FSA funds depending on their plan. Worth checking with your provider.

What if I’m not sure where to start?

8

That's what the chemistry call is for. Book a free 30-minute call and we'll talk through what's going on, what kind of support might help, and whether coaching is the right fit. If it's not, I'll tell you that and try to point you somewhere useful.

How long do most clients work with you?

9

It varies. Some people come in with a specific situation they want to work through and feel ready to move on after a few months. Others find ongoing coaching valuable over a longer period as life changes and new challenges come up. We'll check in regularly on whether the pace and structure still make sense for where you are.

Do you offer in-person sessions?

10

All sessions are held virtually over Zoom. This makes it possible to work with clients across the U.S. without anyone needing to commute... and anywhere else in the world!

What's the cancellation policy?

11

24 hours' notice when possible. If something unexpected comes up — illness, an emergency, a week that completely fell apart — just let me know and we'll figure it out.
